Joseph R. Danna is a passionate
clinical leader who inspires his colleagues to strive for ever-higher levels
of performance and patient satisfaction. He is as respected for his
knowledge and impressive accomplishments as he is for his integrity and
willingness to leave no idea unchallenged – including his own.
Dr. Danna’s
passionate commitment to emergency medicine dates back to his days at the
Chicago Medical School/University of Health Sciences and subsequent
internship at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois. There,
before emergency medicine was an established specialty, he developed a
strong vision of what emergency medicine could and should be. Part of this
vision was brought into being when he helped to draft legislation that
established Illinois’ first statewide trauma care system. The remainder of
his career has been untiringly devoted to implementing, refining and
codifying these ideas in actual clinical practice.
One central focus
of Dr. Danna’s career has involved elevating the Emergency Department at a
community hospital on the fringes of the Chicago area into a premiere
regional trauma center/EMS system. In a market otherwise dominated by a
competitor, this ED has remained an unassailable point of differentiation
for its hospital in the eyes of the community. What Dr. Danna has
accomplished at St. Mary’s of Kankakee, Illinois, is a potent example of
what can be achieved when routine ED Management is replaced by ED
Leadership.
Dr. Danna's
unwavering commitment to emergency medicine continues at all levels. He
lectures and consults widely. He is actively involved in guiding and
mentoring the medical directors at each of his accounts. He also remains
very much a practicing emergency medicine physician – very much willing to
do everything he asks of others. He even finds time to conceive and develop
new tools such as E Square’s® uniquely effective scribe/template program.
His passion and dedication define the concept of ED Leadership.
